Meet Our Residents
Riverview Enhanced Living has a client-centred philosophy. Our clients help to guide the development of our facilities and our programming. We are blessed to have such a positive and amazing group of adults with special needs who show us every day just how amazing they are.

Darlene
Darlene has been a resident in one of our independent-living homes for twenty-five years. Darlene is passionate about art. She attends an art workshop five days a week. In addition, her exercise regime of swimming two days a week paid off, as her team represented Nova Scotia at the Special Olympics in Vancouver. If you ask Darlene what she likes about her home, she would quickly tell you it is the staff and going on trips. Some of the trips her home has taken for summer vacation include travel to Prince Edward Island, Cape Breton, and the Annapolis Valley. |
Mitch Mitch has been an active member of our Riverview Community since November 2014. He moved here from Yarmouth, NS, and he will be the first one to tell you that he “loves living here” at Riverview Enhanced Living. There are many reasons Mitch enjoys it here, but his top two reasons are its soothing nature to his needs and everyone is so willing to help him. Some of the features he appreciates include our Senior Wheels program that allows him to get out and meet people in an around Bridgewater. One of his favourite places to go is the newly expanded Bridgewater Mall. And if you get a chance, ask to see Mitch’s sketch book . . . he’s quite an artist! Since moving to Riverview Mitch says, “I have made a lot of friends and I am happier.” |
Melissa
Melissa lived at home with her mother, Maxine, and sister, Melina, prior to moving to a Small Options Home with our Supported Community Living Options Program in 1994. She was a student of Centre Consolidated School and a graduate of Verge House. Melissa is supported in many programs and activities, including employment at The Ark and the Salvation Army Thrift Store, as well as LaHave L.I.T.E.S. Prevocational Program. She is also a Special Olympics athlete participating in track and field, snowshoeing, and bowling. We tried to ask Melissa what she liked best . . . but she’s so involved in community, recreation, and work that we are still awaiting an answer from this very busy resident. |
Kenny
Since 1974 Kenny has been an active participant within our Riverview Community. He loves his home. It is a great place that fulfills every day with a full and complete life, from having a great room to call his own to engaging with staff that understand him. If you ask Kenny, he will be the first to tell you, “I like it here.” Kenny is active in so much of what Riverview has to offer from puzzles and games in the recreation room to meals and the natural spaces this place has to offer. If you are looking for Kenny, you’ll probably find him helping out in and around the kitchen. Most important to Kenny is the fact that he “has lots of friends” and that truly is the golden resource to him at Riverview. |
Julie
Julie was a long-time resident in Caledonia, living with her parents, Daisy and Doug, and three sisters. Julie attended the two-room schoolhouse in Pine Grove, and every night her mother worked diligently with her to ensure she would know how to read, write, and do basic mathematics. Julie went on to North Queens Rural High School, and after completing a modified program there, she assisted several mornings a week at the preschool program in Caledonia. Here she provided caring and loving support as a big sister to every child! In July of 2010, at age fifty-eight, Julie moved to Rose Cottage (now Rose House). This move allowed her to access and succeed in programs in Bridgewater like the Ark and her church. Today, she spends four days a week with the Ark and is an active participant at her church. Although the transition was not easy, the patient and gentle staff at Rose Cottage made this move a success. |
